This huge volume is a treasure. *Heavily* illustrated throughout, it is a comprehensive review of the mainstream of fashion progress over the last 150 years. "Fashion" is primarily organized around the major and influential designers over the period covered. Photos are superb - even the black and white photos from long ago are crystal clear. Most photos, however, are full color, and the book is printed on quality paper stock. A generous selection of photos for each designer is included - no single "representative" photo in this book! And comments cover design philosophy as well as each designer's position and impact on fashion generally. There is no useless content in "Fashion." No extended, basic introductory material, no useless and dated external references (e.g., to websites and such). An index by subject is provided as well as one by name. This is a reference work meant to be actually referenced! It begs to be used. It is also not slanted, allowing the reader to arrive at their own conclusions.The author, Charlotte Seeling, is a major fashion figure herself, having served as editor of several major fashion magazines.
